Elena Piras

Elena è nata in Sardegna, ipovedente dalla nascita, ha ereditato dal padre l'amore per il canto ed in particolare per la

musica folk che ha seguito con molta passione fin dalla sua tenera età.

Da bambina ha cantato nei cori di chiesa ed in seguito ha partecipato ad alcuni programmi settimanali

trasmessi da una stazione televisiva locale. Con il tempo Elena è diventata un'artista esperta esibendosi per una platea

empre piu' ampia, acquisendo progressivamente uno stile di canto e di chitarra di tipo professionale.

All’età di 18 anni Elena, capace di parlare sei lingue oltre a quella gaelica, decise di andare a vivere a Londra dove lavoro’

con il famoso “London Bulgarian Choir” del quale fu anche la co-fondatrice.

Nel 2006 si sposto’ ad Edimburgo dove il suo lavoro presso la “Royal Scottish Academy of Art” le permise di essere

profondamente coinvolta nella scena musicale scozzese.

Nell’ottobre 2012 ha vinto il terzo premio in occasione del “Royal National Mòd”, uno dei piu’ noti ed importanti eventi sulla

cultura gaelica, nella competizione “Ladies Silver Pendant”.

Le sue influenze principali includono: Karen Matheson per il canto gaelico e Cristy Moore per la musica irlandese.

Elena è attualmente residente a Lerwick, nelle Isole Shetland ed è diventata un’artista molto popolare ed apprezzata nel

circuito dei concerti e dei festival di musica folk del Regno Unito, molto seguita sia per la qualità del proprio materiale musicale

che per la scelta e gli arrangiamenti del tutto personali delle tunes tradizionali scoto-irlandesi che ripropone.

Il successo ed i giudizi positivi espressi dalla critica musicale per il suo album di debutto, "Journey" testimoniano il fervido interesse

alimentato dalla sua attività artistica.



Di recente Elena ha anche fondato il nuovo gruppo "Helly on da SEA", a 3-piece folk band con base nelle Shetland, composto da

Amanda Shearer, lead vocals e mandolino, Sarah Brown al violino ed Elena alla chitarra.

Amanda fa parte della scena musicale delle Isole Shetland da molti anni ed ha partecipato a numerosi folk festivals importanti come

il "Green Fest" in Manchester; Sarah Brown è cresciuta nell'ambiuente musicale di Inverness ed è diventata una protagonista stabile

in da Lounge.



Come Elena stessa ha dichiarato: “Nothing compares to the authentic power of Scots, Irish and Gaelic folk and the way it transports

both performer and their audience into its melodies and narrative. No other music seems to convey so vividly the beauty and hardship

of a land and its people. This is a truly compelling experience for me and one I hope to share with your audiences”.

Scott Wood



Lo “Scott Wood Trio” si è formato nell’estate del 2012 in occasione del famoso “Piping Live! Festival” e fin dagli esordi ha attirato l’attenzione

degli appassionati per l’energia e la dinamicità della propria musica, caratterizzata da uno stile unico, sempre incline ad una base melodica

affascinante e completato da modalità innovative negli arrangiamenti. Nonostante la giovane età dei musicisti, i componenti del trio vantano

un’esperienza artistica molto intensa e profondamente maturata nella scena scozzese; il trio riesce a sorprendere l’audience con elaborazione

di un suono originale, basato sulla fusione della cornamusa, del piffero, della chitarra e del violino, risultando in una miscela sonora moderna e

giovanile, trascinante e di particolare impatto emotivo.

Lo Scott Wood Trio è stato definito come “The most exciting new traditional act in Scotland ”,

Skerryvore.



Con Mhairi Mackinnon al violino e Ron Jappy alla chitarra, il Trio riesce a creare un sound melodico e raffinato. Scott è attualmente membro del

rinomato gruppo internazionale dei “Red Hot Chilli Pipers” ed è stato finalista nella prestigiosa competizione “BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional

Musician of The Year 2013”.



L’elegante approccio violinistico ha permesso a Mhairi di essere invitata da molti artisti come turnista e di partecipare alla registrazione di numerosi

album, mentre la’intensa carriera artistica di Ron sia come solista che come membro di differenti gruppi lo ha portato in giro per il mondo. Tutti e tre i

musicisti hanno conseguito il proprio diploma musicale presso il famoso “Royal Conservatoire of Scotland”.



Lo Scott Wood Trio ha fatto il suo debutto al “Piping Live” Festival nel 2012, raccogliendo un tale successo durante la settimana del Festival da dovere

accontentare la richiesta di suonare ben altre cinque volte durante il Festival, incluso durante la sessione "New Folk Friday" insieme ai “Niteworks” ed

ai “Rura”. Il trio e’ stato anche il primo gruppo a suonare presso il "Folklub", un nuovo evento folk in stile con sede a Glasgow. In occasione di questo

importante appuntamento hanno pubblicato il loro EP di debutto, che è stato registrato presso i “ La Chunky Studios ” con Barry Reid della “Tracherous

Orchestra”.



Hanno anche avuto una serie di apparizioni radiofoniche tra le quali quelle alla stazione "Celtic Music Radio", alla trasmissione “Placet Pipe” ed alla

trasmissioni della BBC Radio Scotland “Pipeline” e "Pipeline’s Best of 2012".



Finora, nel 2013, hanno supportato i concerti degli Skerryvore presso “Ullapool Villane Hall” il 3 Gennaio e presso “Walzer Halls”, Troons, il 19 Aprile

e quelli dei Mànran alla “Queens Hall”, Edimburgo il 17 Aprile e presso “Oran Mor” a Glasgow il 19 Aprile.



Lo scorso 17 Aprile sono stati filmati dal canale televisivo in lingua gaelica “BBC Alba” per l’evento di presentazione dell’edizione del 2013 del Festival

“Piping Live !” presso “The National Piping Centre” a Glasgow ed hanno poi partecipato anche ad altri prestigiosi spettacoli televisi. Durante il periodo

estivo e per i prossimi mesi il trio sarà impegnato a partecipare ad alcuni importanti festival tra i quali il “Tiree Music Festival” nell’Isola di Tiree, alla

10° edizione del “Piping Live!” a Glasgow ed allo “Speyfest” a Fochabers.

For the VI° edition ' Festival famous Irish artist Lorraine Fletcher, Visual Artist/Designer & Web Design & Marketing Assistant, has designed the poster with her

unique style, making it an amazing piece of art.



About

Lorraine Fletcher originally from Armagh but now based in Galway, has been working professionally as an artist from 2008,she wanted to work as an artist since an

early age,always sketching and painting...it was the natural thing to do.



This love of painting lead to studying Combined Studies in Fine Art & Design at the University of Ulster Belfast,graduating in 2002.



She worked in the design field, drawing but in a more technical sense, until 2008 when the recession came about, the decision was made to focus back on painting

as a full time profession.



She held a solo exhibition in the spring of 2008 entitled "Hands On" which was a series of detailed watercolours and oils, inspired by musicians, focusing on their

hands on the instruments. Being a musician herself, the paintings portray her love for the music through the use of colour and composition.

Some of the qualities in Lorraine's work are the vibrant colours and attention to detail.



Lorraine creates images which more recently have focused on the female form, in particular the face. She portrays beauty and tenderness in some paintings

whereas in others are qualities of strength with the use of more striking facial features.



The 1950 era is a more recent interest of Lorraine's, the vintage and elegant portrayal of the female form.



Her distinctive paintings are characteristic by a love of colour and strong composition influenced by artists such as R.Lenkiewicz, Fabian Perez and Gustav Klimt.
